BONUS: How to Buy a Natural Djembe

Here is a list of the things to look for, when buying a natural djembe made of wood, animal skin, and rope.

1. Sound (something you like)
2. Tuning (low to high) NOTE: research Mali Weave
3. Identify the wood (Hare, Linque, others)
4. Carving (you are paying for art, not sound)
5. Rubber bottom (circle or tire rim)
6. Cord / Verticals (not frayed, heavy, color of choice)
7. Hitch spacing (for beauty and consistent tuning)
8. Skin (mounted equally high all around)
9. Back (lined up in center from handle to center of opposite side)
10. Fur on or off on the sides (your choice of style)
11. Fur over / Skin over (your choice for style)
12. Handle (simple, small, strong braided handle is best)
13. Clarity of Sound (good tone, bass, slap)

First and foremost, and puts all else to lesser priority... the Sound!
